About Meeresweiten

„MeeresWeiten“ by Anemine was released in 2014 on the German label Lemongrassmusic. It was a collaboration between me and my longtime musical partner Roman Weingardt. Inspired by Nordic music and post-rock, we drew influences from artists like Múm, Sigur Rós, and a-ha, as well as jazz musicians such as Nils Petter Molvær and Arve Henriksen.

The album originally began as a musical adaptation of Alessandro Baricco’s novel „Oceano Mare“. We first created a stage performance, where Susanne Rump narrated excerpts from the book. Some of these spoken fragments remain on the album.

„MeereWeiten“ has a distinct acoustic sound, featuring Bajan. harmonica, piano, and Rhodes. We also incorporated field recordings and sampling, and it was during this time that I started experimenting with modular synthesis – early traces of that can be heard on the album. The production took several years, and to this day, I am very proud of what we created.

For me, a key track that captures the essence of the album is ‚L’Orizzonte Rosso.
